Coimbra´s ancient roots: Useful and Medicinal Plants!

General description

According to the World Health Organization, 80% of the world's people rely for their primary health care on traditional medicine, most types of which use remedies made from plants. The use of traditional medicine in developing countries is increasing. With populations increasing, governments want to encourage indigenous forms of medicine rather than rely on imported drugs, and there are strong moves to revive traditional cultures.

This activity will be focused on the biology, biochemistry and pharmacology study of natural products (ie, plants, herbs, and spices) used as drugs or for the preparation of drugs, their interaction with the human body and also how to recognise them in the Nature.

You will have as well a unique oportunity to get to know the culture, the living and traditions of Coimbra and Portugal in general.
