LBG Madrid was established in February 29th, 1996. (We've had only 4 birthdays since then?) On April 24th we were accepted to run for Observer group when Porto retired its candidacy, and in the following GA, hold in Tallinn, we started our partnership with BEST International when we were accepted as Observer group, by the hand of LBG Valladolid.
Growing up without fears, in Veszprem's Presidents' Meeting, November 1996, our LBG reached the Baby group status, and one year later, PM Warsaw, November 1997, LBG Madrid reached the highest distinction, FULL MEMBERSHIP!! With the support of the University, more people and more money, LBG Madrid was able to organize up to two external events per year. Such a success was recognized by BEST International, when we were chosen as home of the Presidents' Meeting 2001. As a curiosity, a sword was bought in the city of Toledo, and still today the same sword is the trophy given to the PM organizers year by year.
It was 2003 when, after several jobfairs, external events and a trilateral Cultural Exchange, we started having problems with the Student Union, from which we were members. The solution was to split up, establishing an independent youth association. Hard times without the support of the University, and we had to start again from the beginning (paperwork to do, forms to fill, etc?)
The first event as an independent youth association was our 2004 Summer Course, and the first issue of LBG Madrid's magazine was released the next year. Everything followed a good way and we aimed to be a strong group again. Despite of the generational change and other difficulties (lack of ?9000 for our SC06 60 days before the arrival day) our group overcame to all of them, even with profits!!
During October 2006, LBG Madrid celebrated its X Anniversary. New and very motivated members took the lead of the 2007 projects, which included a Local Engineering Competition, a Cultural Exchange and a Summer Course, and the nursing process of LBG Madrid Carlos III. A strong good mood and good cooperation between all four spanish groups (LBG Madrid, LBG Madrid Carlos III, LBG Barcelona and LBG Valladolid) gave its outcomes as the BESTspain brand, a project which is being developed year by year (National Engineering Competitions, BESTspain magazine, BESTspain website, and more to come!!). We presented our candidacy to organise Presidents' Meeting 2008, but we did not get it, so we searched for new projects... and we found them!! LBG Madrid organized a BEST Engineering Competition, a Cultural Exchange, the II Local Engineering Competition, a 16-day Summer Course, we also hosted the I National Engineering Competition (BESTspain event) and the Jamboree 2008.
Nowadays, with the dedicated support of the University, full of energy, full of motivation, the Great LBG Madrid is ready to take any challenge. Nobody can stop us!
