The first steps: for LBG Aalborg were taken in 2000, after an unnamed source at the Faculty of Aalborg University (AAU) hintingly asked Christina Asklof, Charlotte Hejl, and Jens Pedersen, if there might be interest in starting up a BEST group at AAU among them as students.

The first team: Since Charlotte, Jens, and Christina were not the type of students to sit back in their semester project rooms with their eyes shut, so they took off for GA2000 in Stockholm, where they presented the case to form BEST-Aalborg as an observer group. During the same summer, the same group took off to be co-organizers of SC2000 in Lisbon, and this team became determined to start up an LBG in Aalborg! Below the team of first SC-organizers.

Nursing: Nordic Board Meeting 2000 Copenhagen found place. LBG Copenhagen being our nurse back then, made for a series of cabin meetings that had its impact. At PM2000 in Budapest, the team moved ahead to present the group's intention to apply as a baby member group of BEST through Trine and Christina's attendance, presenting the supporting argument that the group wanted to arrange a summer course in Aalborg in 2001. Charlotte and Christina went as delegates to GA2001 in Ljubljana.

The first course: In the summer of 2001, Trine and Søren applied to summer courses in Helsinki and Chania and both participated. Later the same summer, another course took place titled SC2001 Production Management. This was Aalborg's first learning event and (summer) course. The course from 4th - 18th of August, was sponsored by AAU, with academic content done by AAU's Centre for Industrial Production.

Coming up with a recipeAccommodation was in the city center at student union rooms, and the course was realized with AOF-Aalborg as sponsors, and also giving access to their kitchens for organizers. In this way they soon found themselves making food over a period of 14 days and for 25 people! Main-organizers of were Trine, Christina, Andreas and Charlotte, and in addition 5 AAU student friends, or... more accurately helpers :) The main selling argument in convincing these friends were to invite to parties :) and that worked double-well, as the friends who decided to help also decided to take part in BEST'ies other summer courses in Europe.

Full member: PM2001 Madrid came and BEST-Aalborg was now a full member LBG! Andreas - one of the old-timers at this point - was delegate together with Trine, who at this point had been elected president. Trine also took part in GA2002 in France, together with Mariann. At this time Michael had become president, and another summer course was realized: SC2002 titled Space Craft Engineering, the course was done in collaboration with Oersted satellite group and faculty and with Oticon as a corporate sponsor at AOF again. The course took place from 7 July 2002 to 21 July 2002. Trine ended her time in BEST by taking off to New Zealand for one year after helping to organize the first day of SC2002, thereafter taking a well deserved break from BEST to continue studies/travel out in the world.

Members finished their studies: PM2002 Bucharest came and Mariann took off alone this time to Rumania as the delegate for Aalborg. As the different active members finished their studies without having new people who felt the same attachment to BEST recruited, the LBG Aalborg lost its pace for some time. The members of the LBG all graduated and with no new members joining the group, it ran out of people, and GA2003 in Slovakia did not have delegates. However, PM2003 Belgium had Tommy as the one delegate from Aalborg. In Aalborg 2002-2003 all members of LBG Aalborg graduated, and with no new members joining the group, BEST-Aalborg ran out of people and thus of air to rise again. In GA2004 Copenhagen, again there was no delegate, even if it took place in Copenhagen.

Suspended: In the summer 2004 Susan Langer from LBG Copenhagen contacted Jeppe Larsen, a new student at AAU, to ask if he was interested in restarting LBG Aalborg. She sold the project very well, because a few months later Jeppe attended PM2004 in Portugal. Because LBG Aalborg hadn't arranged any courses for two year they had to be suspended. LBG Aalborg accepted this, but at the same time they presented a plan to make LBG Aalborg more active.

Full member: At GA2005 in Greece, Jeppe again took off with Kasper. Time went and more members were joining the LBG and at PM2005 in Ljubliana LBG Aalborg got status as Full member. The same summer LBG Aalborg organized the symposium "Teaching methods of the future: E-learning and problem based learning" with help from LBG Copenhagen and EduCo. The event was quite well visited with 23 confirmed applicants. Aalborg then organized a Nordic Regional Meeting 2005 in October 2005 with Jeppe at the rudder, and thus Aalborg had the pleasure of being the host of a regional meeting. In GA2006 Zagreb, things again took a turn for the less fortunate as no delegate went. Mid-2006: Most active members left the LBG due to leaving Aalborg in general, causing shortage of resources in the following period.

Summer course 2006: Winds continued to change. At PM2006 in Ghent, no one was able to go. Time went by, and members were coming and going. Then, in the summer 2006 LBG Aalborg organized the summer course "Empowering the 21st century - Energy systems of the future". A course with more than 200 applications from which 20 students were selected. After the summer of 2006 a lot of the members graduated and therefore left the LBG. Not enough new members were recruited, and there were therefore not enough resources to organize a summer course in 2007. Then, GA 2007 was to take place, and Jeppe reappeared on the scene and travelled out from Aalborg once again as the Viking he is. Aalborg was suspended again in April 2007 for not being present at two consecutive GAs.

PM2007 in Vallalodid came, and Mikkel joined in the line of delegates in Aalborg's history to go out and once again speak Aalborg's intentions. That said, no recruitment found place, and so it can be honestly said that the previous members were merely trying to keep BEST-Aalborg alive. No summer course in 2008 took form. At this point the organization was truly at a turning point, as there were more or less 2 members in BEST-Aalborg, Kevin and Jacob. Kevin said yes to take on the role as president at an extra-ordinary board election. Jacob who was also present had said no due to previous engagements with another student organization at the time, however he took part in the Nordic Regional Meeting in Göteborg in early 2008. Kevin went as delegate in GA2008 Tallinn and got Aalborg one more chance. Work very slowly began on an autumn course, however even though some efforts were made by both before the summer, not much happened.

Coming back from vacation: Jacob came back from a trip in the USA and found that nothing had happened since he took off, and that there was no concrete work done on the course. He decided to start putting together a course as it was now or never, if BEST was to continue to exist in Aalborg, after the autumn. This meant sitting down with a professor, convincing him to facilitate the process, and to our luck a professor listened and offered his suggestions on which professors to contact on our part. Jacob, knowing that he had already spent some time in an organization previously and not wanting the same, and knowing that Kevin were to go on an internship in Germany from October 1st 2008 and onwards, Jacob offered to take over the presidency of BEST-Aalborg and to find others to re-build BEST-Aalborg together with. From that one person, BEST-Aalborg became a group of 8 students that today amounts to 7 active members. Some newer than others, some baby members, and some experienced members. Henrik went to Regional Meeting in Lund. Jacob went to PM2008 in Bucharest and pleaded why Aalborg should not be excluded after continued suspension arguing that BEST-Aalborg had a half-way completed winter course. Jacob succeeded and Aalborg got it's last chance. Thanks to many people, including the main-coordinator of the winter course Eva, an always motivating recruiter Izabela, and Marika helping out with web and recruitment, Rasmus with FR, AAU staff, alumni, and experienced BEST members from all over, Aalborg looks to re-appear as bird phoenix.

Today Aalborg is preparing to execute its first winter course to take place in the last week of January 2009 with 25 confirmed participants, 12 co-organizers, 6 participating professors not just from Aalborg also from Copenhagen, a total of 12 company speakers and so far 4 sponsoring companies, and with the clear aim of sustaining 8 active members and growing to 12 members at a minimum before April/May, where GA2009 Budapest will take place, to secure the knowledge transfer.
