The birth of BEST-Riga goes back to 1993! [You are right - we are celebrating our sweet 16 this year!] It was when a group of enthusiastic students from Riga Technical University decided to join and get more familiar with the rest of the Europe. Since our history goes back so far, it's quite difficult to find the actual people responsible, but we are working on it!

During all this time we surely had some ups and downs. There was even a time when we almost disappeared from the map of BEST. But since GA'02 in Paris we are happy to have Full Member status again and for that we will be always grateful to our friends (special thanks to our VIP Baby Members), neighbors and BEST-Tallinn as our nurse They made us believe in ourselves and didn't let us lose our faith and hope when we needed it the most!

During all 16 years you can only imagine amount of evens we held or participated in! We organized courses, leisure events and engineering competitions, held region meetings and board meetings, organized committee meeting and trainshops. And surely there are a ton of local events that would be quite impossible to name all - from seminars for all students in our university to all sorts of training meant to improve our own knowledge.

Today LBG Riga is about 25 active, hard working, positive, friendly and fun loving people (not the mention our beautiful Alumni that are always willing to help and guide us). During the years there are some events that somehow developed into traditions which now we are quite proud and happy about. For example, each year (since 2001) in the end of September LBG Riga gets together and goes to Ronisi (that's a known camping place in Latvia) to paint the camping houses. It's a really fun event that also has a good propose!

But surely there is also a bit more serious stuff going on too. One of the things why BEST-Riga is known among our university students is Engineering Competition that this year will be held for the 6th time. It's almost a tradition that every year in the beginning of the spring for a whole day the main university building is turned into a working place for young engineers willing to compete and learn!

This year is looking to be a good one for us! Not only there is annual local engineering competition ahead of us, but we are also planning to host first Baltic Engineering Competition BaBEC with participants not only from the 3 Baltic countries but also from Russia. There are big plans for the summer course "Catch The Data If You Can" that is looking to be amazing two weeks this summer!
