Break Bones not Hearts
General description
Did you ever ask yourself if there is a less painful way to find out the limits of your Bones rather than breaking them? like, breaking those of something else? Here we go you have 206 of them and they make you stand upright so let us find out together how long you can stand up before you brake.
We have planned a course that will merge the wonders of nature and combine it with engineering thinking and one or two calculations. You will have the opportunity to find their limits and simulate the forces appearing inside under different loads.
During the course you will be performing a durability test in groups on a bone sample that you will prepare yourself, respecting the "rules" that come with performing tests on critical-/organic-matter samples as bones. Subsequently, you will further process the data obtained in order to be useful for the Finite Elemente Method analysis. On the last day we will apply the beforehand gathered outcomes and apply it to a FEM model of a bone to explore the limits that our bones can take and how they are dispersed.
Since the course will have a variety of different teaching methodes, the continuous examination will take place throughout the whole course and focus on different aspects of your working methods and results.
But Academics are not everything, we welcome you to Frankfurt am Main, the most international city in Germany, the largest financial center on the continent, also known as Mainhattan, and its great Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. Get ready to enjoy the city in all its faces with activities that go from cultural to engaging city rallies and Parties in the evening.
Be ready, LBG Frankfurt is waiting for you.
Academic information
- Fields of activity:
- Biological/Biotechnical/Gene Engineering , Biomedical Engineering , Materials Engineering , Medicine/Dental Medicine
- Content and topics:
- The aim of this course is to learn how to measure the toughness of a probe that you, beforehand, have removed from a bone, all respecting the rules of how to treat organic materials and finally applying the gained knowledge to an FEM Model to simulate realistic forces inside of the bones.
- Learning goals and objectives:
- You will learn -How to evaluate the toughness of bones -How to handle materials like bones that have a time window before they loose their original structure. -How to apply the gained data to an FEM model and use it to simulate realistic loads.
- Examination type:
- Continuous Evaluation
- ECTS credits issued:
- Not known yet
