Profile of the engineers and professionals the company is looking for:

There are 3 points of entry into Schlumberger for university graduates: 'The Field', 'The Office' as a PetroTechnical Trainee, and 'Research & Development'.

The Field represents the largest number of starting opportunities in Schlumberger. Our business need, your interest and background determine your point of entry. We believe in borderless careers giving you the opportunity to move between The Field, R&D and the Office, after reaching an advanced level of expertise.

We need Field engineers who work on land and sea, in artic cold and desert heat to deliver technical services to our costumers. The job is physically and mentally demanding. While challenging, it is perhaps the most rewarding and respected job in the industry. Field engineers hold bachelor's and Master degrees in engineering or applied science.

We need Researchers, Scientists, and Engineers to develop and manufacture high-tech equipment in our technology centers worldwide. Nuclear, acoustic, optical, chemistry, fluid mechanics, and MEMS technologies are just some of the sciences we use to solve complex hydrocarbon reservoir challenges. Researchers, scientists, and engineers hold advanced degrees in engineering and applied sciences.

We need PetroTechnical Experts who work in the office supporting the field or providing expert advice to customers. They are part of a team that engineers solutions to increase hydrocarbon reserves and grow production. These experts hold bachelor's or master's degrees in petroleum engineering and geosciences, or computer science.

Typical career for hired engineers:

Our policy of promotion from within and filling management positions from Schlumberger's engineering ranks has been a major factor in both our financial success and our technological achievements. Likewise, our decentralized management structure encourages the kind of individual initiative that leads to innovative solutions, personal recognition, and high visibility.

Schlumberger has developed people internally for many years through the 'Borderless Careers' concept. After an initial 3-5 year period needed to become expert on one of the basic technical services, change is encouraged on at least one of three dimensions: geographical, functional and service. A typical example is an Oilfield Services Field Engineer, who after 5 years in the field in the Middle East and Africa might transfer to another Oilfield service line as Field Service Manager in a European location. Career opportunities in Schlumberger are available around the world.

There is no 'standard career path' or long term career planning in Schlumberger. Each individual pursues his own path taking into account his current level of experience and his desires for evolution, as well as such constraints as family needs, lifestyle aspirations and dual careers. Mobility in its full sense is one of the defining characteristics of Schlumberger and is one of the key tools in the development of our future managers.

International mobility policy:

As a International Mobile Field Engineer, the employee is expected to move and travel as requested by company needs.

Recruitment procedure:

In keeping with their technological origins, Schlumberger companies make a science out of recruiting the best. Recruiters combine institutions in more than 75 countries, using recruiting teams that include line operations people who can discuss peer-to-peer what it is really like working for Schlumberger. Recruiters look for inquisitive, venturesome self-starters, respectful of other human beings, who are willing to work anywhere. The Schlumberger organization has special need for outstanding people because its operations depend on decentralized responsibility.

Intensive, ongoing training, implemented uniformly around the world, helps building the knowledge and skills needed to manage diverse personnel, technical, and financial issues. As your abilities develop, you are entrusted with more difficult tasks, and expected to use your skills and good judgment to get them done. As one employee put it, ?You are given a problem and expected to solve it. How you solve it is your problem.?

Internal training's policy:

From the moment you will join us, you will begin a structured training program that provides you with the resources and confidence to deliver technology and service to our clients.

We have training centers located throughout the world. All are staffed with full-time instructors, developed from within Schlumberger; who have demonstrated their technical expertise and coaching skills throughout their careers.

You will have the opportunity to take more challenging assignments and grow both professionally and personally. Whether or not you elect to stay for a full career, the training and experience that you will gain at Schlumberger will be invaluable for your future.
