About BEST
BEST Cluj-Napoca |
BEST Cluj-Napoca currently has about 50 active members, commited and involved into many projects and subdepartments. The year of 2008 was one oriented towards evolution and structural changes of the LBG. After going from a four-people structure to a five people crew for the board, implementing a departamental structure and department-oriented way of dealing with projects has lead to increasing the power of organizing events of the LBG.
As a consequence, in the recent times we have tripled the number of our events and have widened our palette of activities.
GreenWeek is an event BEST Cluj-Napoca has started to organize in summer 2008. It is targeted towards students and offers them ways to recycle their courses and contribute to keeping the university a greener place. It was first organized in the winter of 2008.
BEST Training Weekend (BTW) is an event that takes place every three or four weeks where students from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca are invited to assist trainings delivered by BEST trainers. The program's purpose is to offer complementary education and to emprove the relationship with the University.
Summer BUZZ, Autumn BUZZ, Winter BUZZ and Spring BUZZ are publications about BEST Season Courses. They are offered for free to students so they can find out about BEST Courses. The project also prooved to be a good FR instrument, along with being a very effective means of promoting the courses.
Considering the creation of LBG Cluj-Napoca, it seems to have started in December 1994, when Cristi Bogdan and Lucia Cristolovean from LBG Timisoara came at a party organised by the students at Economical Engineering in Cluj-Napoca. Some of our alumni remember drinking some Greek stuff (ouzo?), some others remember a discussion with all kinds of terms they didn't know yet (LBG, GA, Summer Course, Jobshop, Deadline, baby member, full member...) Still, this seems to have been the starting point for our LBG.
Afterwards, several proffesors and people from University staff helped this group to form the organisation. One of the main proffesors involved was Ioan Abrudan, since 2004 prorector of our University, and honourific member of our LBG.
In January 1995 the organization was registered officialy in Romania, several months before it became Observer. We are now trying to find out the full list of founding members
Considering the first course, that is a little tricky. Private Area statistics mention to all LBGs the events organised since summer 1997 only. However, the first one was organised in summer 1996, called "Cooperation through Internet", little after we became baby, as Timisoara (our nurse) made a proposal at PM 1995 Trondheim for us to be allowed to organise a course in the next summer season. All the other public events we had are stated in PA.
We organised our first jobfair in 1995, taking the idea (again) from Timisoara who already had several years of experience with it. Anyways, it was for sure the first one in Cluj, and after a couple of years of also doing it with AIESEC, we arrived in 2004 to organise the 10th jobfair, under the name of JOBShop, already a trademark for several years, and we are still organising one every spring, and it is definitely the biggest one in Cluj-Napoca.
In 2000 we made the first PCParty, idea brought from LBG Brasov, and in 2003 the 4th BEST PCParty in Cluj-Napoca was already the largest multimedia festival in Romania.
But we also had pretty many internal events, the most memorable being GA 1998 with Bucharest and Timisoara, Jamboree 2000 and TRAP VII. Alumni also remember organising an International WorkShop in 1996, but it does not appear in private area (maybe it was together with Timisoara or Bucharest)
We were also organising for two years "The Days of Technical University in Cluj-Napoca", in 2003 and 2004, but it is now a project being organised by another student organisation in our university.
That would be it! The rest is just details...
